A garden of natural disasters

Garden (Exploding Earth)

As part of a group show in Canberra, I am making a series of small embroidered artworks – and the theme is green.

For me, associations with the colour green are full of contradictions, the most prominent of which is the tension between the “natural” and the synthetic. For many people green equals “environment” or “nature”, but green is also often used to represent poison,  toxic waste and hazardous fumes. In this series of works I want to explore uncontrollable phenomena, represented on a small scale in a highly controlled media, using, of course, the colour green.
